Australian Agriculture is not immune to change as the pace of business becomes faster and profit margins finer. Yet three simple principles - Grow More, Graze More, Gain More - can enable graziers to meet each challenge in this new business environment.
Grow More, Graze More, Gain More is based on a simple planning strategy of now-where-how:
In agriculture there can be a reluctance to plan because 'the season will probably change' 'fertiliser prices will fall' or 'my staff might leave'. The common thread with these and similar issues is that they can't be controlled by you. There are, however, many other issues that are well within your control. Through the Grow More, Graze More, Gain More process you will learn to manage your future by planning for what you can control and minimising your exposure to risk from the uncontrollable.
Based on a series of workshops, the Grow More, Graze More, Gain More process starts by providing you with the basics for financial management and planning. This will enable you to understand where your business is now financially, where you can, and would like to be, and some of the financial tools that you can used to measure your progress on your path to a more profitable future.
The Grow More, Graze More, Gain More workshops seek to build on your existing knowledge of your grazing enterprise - understanding your natural resources, in particular your soils and pastures. This then leads on to gain the most from these resources in pasture and grazing management. The final module combines the skills, tools and knowledge gained through the workshop to assist to plan you future farm management strategies and actions.
Grazing enterprises seeking to maximise productivity are actively implementing the Grow More, Graze More, Gain More philosophy throughout eastern Australia.
